The article analyzes how extreme climatic events, such as frost, become temporal landmarks and ephemeris of the social memory and historiography of a given community or region. Having as a case study the Black Frost in the North of the State of Paraná, in 1975, based on environmental history, studies on historical time and memory, the sources used are reports in newspapers contemporary to the event and the moments of its remembrance. As a conclusion, it is argued about the need for historiography to consider the presence of natural events, extreme or not, in the constitution of temporal structures present in the memory and history of human societies.
