This is the recently published book review; FARIA, Patricia de Souza. The conquest of the eastern souls: Franciscans, Catholicism and colonial power in Portuguese Goa (1540-1740). Rio de Janeiro: 7 Letters, 2013. The book deals with the presinça the Franciscan missions in Goa in the first modernity.

Master and PhD in Social History from the Universidade de São Paulo. Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the Department of History at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa.
