Abstract

Action research combines knowledge production with problem-solving, involving participants in a continuous cycle of reflection, action, and evaluation. By integrating theory and practice, it promotes collaboration and adaptation to generate innovative and applicable knowledge. The Candonga Community Association, with its community kitchen focused on processing agroecological products, has been restructuring its activities with the support of the NAPI Alimento e Território project since 2023. This study mobilizes and analyzes the use of action research methodology, identifying potentials, limitations, and challenges in the territory. The methodology revealed the importance of integrating academic knowledge with local expertise, providing an intrinsic understanding of the community’s needs. Based on the collected information, new equipment was acquired, and workshops were held to promote associationism and autonomy. The community revived the kitchen and started organizing local fairs. Significant milestones include the election of a new board, obtaining public utility status, and constructing a cover for the kitchen’s outdoor area, highlighting local leadership. In summary, the university should act as a mediator, integrating research and extension to promote social emancipation and stimulate sustainable territorial development, using participatory methodologies to identify and address local needs.
