Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze regulatory pieces around the circular economy (CE) in Brazil and discuss possibilities for social inclusion of waste collectors. CE has gained prominence as a sustainable approach and the idea of transitioning from a linear economy to a circular economy is spreading in different contexts around the world. In this article, whose format is essayistic, the reflections are directed to the analysis of the new National Circular Economy Policy in Brazil and convergent public policies related to waste management and the work of waste collectors in Brazil. As a result, it emphasizes the need to understand the social implications of policies around this approach, identifies gaps and presents suggestions based on the solidarity economy, with a view to ensuring a democratic and socially fair circular economy in Brazil.
