Abstract

This article highlights the contributions of Marx social theory to the work of the social worker, clarifying knowledge and important mediations resulting from this methodological-theoretical perspective in the professional field. In its composition, initially presents a general overview about the Marxist thought insertion in the Brazilian social service, in the sequence, discusses the role of social theory in the profession scope, punctuating biases related to this issue, particularly regarding to technical-professional instrumentation. Based on these considerations, it highlights knowledge production advances in Social Work from its dialogue interlocution with the Marxist production and its tradition, which decisively contributed to oxygenate and qualify the profession as well as to offer theoretical political subsidies to the work of Social Worker.

Docente no núcleo de Fundamentos do Trabalho Profissional. Atualmente coordena o Curso de Serviço Social da UNITAU e o Projeto de Extensão Escritório de Aplicação em Serviço Social.
