Abstract

This study investigates the figuration of death, as well as the notion of rhizome in stories in Swamp Thing comic, written by Alan Moore. To do this, we carry out a critical reading of the first five editions written by Alan Moore, analyzing how the figuration of death occurs, based on the concepts of death-rebirth and double and, taking such concepts into consideration, we seek to demonstrate how this figuration is surpassed by the notion of rhizome that seems to permeate the entire existence of the Monster of Swamp, as well as its connection with green, in which the transmitted memory and absolved conscience plays an important role in this narrative, reaching the point where You can say that the Swamp Monster, when (re)born, became a rhizome. It is worth mentioning that we opted for a comparativist approach, of an intertextual and transdisciplinary nature, based on texts written by authors such as Edgar Morin, Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Maurice Hallbwachs, among others.
