The present work discusses two proposals to analyze the accent in classical latin, by stress-timing and irregular-timing, advocating in favor of the latter and developing the idea that, in the accent change from classical latin to vulgar latin, irregular-timing is replaced by stress-timing. Thus, Metric Phonology is used, whose assumptions will be briefly summarized.
