From manuscripts to the Internet: the evolution of pharmaceutical almanacs

This work aims to show the evolution of almanacs from their possible origins in the Middle Ages as manuscripts to the present days, with on-line almanacs. Thus the analysis will be developed as follows: firstly, the theoretical principles that guide this study will be presented, mainly Bakhtin's reflections on origin, evolution and definition of discourse genre; secondly, the contributions by Marcuschi regarding new genres in digital environments will be approached; after that, with regard to the evolution of the pharmaceutical almanacs, a summary of almost 600 years of history of those "books" will be presented; lastly, the case of the Renascim/Sadol Almanacs and their printed and online versions will be shown.
