Abstract

The aim of this article is to emphasize the importance of the Brazilian Social Welfare System as a supplierof benefits and as an income public policy. The study starts with the discussion on the creation and the exhaustion of the Welfare State, then it analyses the antecedents and the current problems of the Brazilian Welfare System. Finally, it refers to the role of the Welfare System in the revenue of senior citizens and the influence of this revenue on the economy of Brazilian municipalities, specially the ones that make up the Association of the Municipalities of Middle Paranapanema (AMEPAR), in Paraná.
