The objective of the present study was to compare metal - ceramic bend strength using two typos of surface treatment (electrochemical etched and abusive jet with aluminum oxide) and two nickel - chromium - based metal alloys (Durabond and Nickron). Test bodies were prepared from patterns obtained from a metal matrix so that they would all have the same area. They were then smoothed on a lathe and submitted to surface treatment during which porcelain was applied- Compression strength tests were performed with an Instron machine at the speed of 0,02 mm/min. On the basis of the results obtained we may conclude that: 1. Electrochemical etched showed a worse performance in terms in terms of bond resistance than surface icralmant with an abrasive aluminum oxide jet; 2 . The metal alloys apparently gave identical bond strength results if we consider the overall means for each alloy, which werenot statistically significant; 3 . However, when the metal alloy x typo treatment interactinos were compared, It was demonstrated that: 3.1 - Electrochemical etched induced greater resistance for the Durabond than for the Nickron alloy, 3.2 - The abrasive jet with aluminum oxide induced greater resistance for the Nickron than the Durabond alloy: 3.3 - The Nichron metal alloy demonstrated greater compression strength with the abrasive jet than with electrochemical etch; 3-4. - The Durabond metal alloy showed similar strength with both treatments abrasive jet and electrochemical etch).
