Germination ecology of fig achenes (Ficus spp. Moraceae)

The basic factors that influence achenes germination were not studied for Brazilian figs. This study describes these factors. The conditions that lessen fig germination are frequent drying, total darkness and lack of microorganism activity. Specific abiotic and biotic factors should be on deposition sites to allow germination and establishment of fig achenes on natural conditions.
