From June through March 1991, 90 patients with essential trigeminal neuralgia were treated, using the method of thermocoagulation by radiofrequency. The simplicity of the method, the low frequency of complications when compared to other procedures and the short hospital stay, favored the choice of this method as the best surgical treatment for trigeminal neuralgia.
