An episode of leukoencephalomalacia during the second semester of J 985, involving hones in the North of Parana., is related to the ingestion of moldy com. The present paper describe the pertaining clinical symptomatology as well us histopatology, microbiological data and mycotoxin analysis. The clinical signs pointed to neurologic disturbances and induced locomotor abnormalities, blindness, depression and hyperexcitation. Death occurred IX to 36 hours after the feed was consumed. At the macroscopic examination, the brain revealed maiacic areas involving softening and cavitation of white matter. These same areas exhibited liquefaetive necrosis, intense edema and perivascular infiltration of mono and polymorphonuclear ceils. The samples were highly contaminated by molds, ranging from 10s to W CFUfg by product. The main isolated fungi was Fusarium moniliforme. When these feed samples wre analysed for aflatoxins fB), B2. and Gj pins stcrigmatocystin, ochratoxin A and zearalenonej, zearalcnonc was detected in two samples at the level of 19. Omg/'Kg (mixed feed J and 0.7mg/Kg (corn feed).
