Abstract

Can intuitively chosen criteria, if satisfied by a developing nation, predict the existence of liberary school in that nation? The main objective of this study is to determine the discrimination power and effectiveness of each criterion from a set of ten criteria as predictor of library school. Twenty-one developing countries were randomly sampled from a universe of sixty-three. Through use of statistic techniques including the point-biserial correlation (Rpbis) the efectiveness of each criterion as good predictor of library school was tested. The results show that most criteria have good predictive value, but interaction between economic, educational and informational criteria is a sine qua non for the existence of library schools in developing nations.
