Abstract

Objective: to identify the influence of establishing a research group on maternal and child health on the scientific production of faculty and students in the Nursing program at a Federal Institute in the South of Brazil.
Method: a descriptive documentary research with a quantitative approach. A quantitative survey of scientific productions was carried out based on the analysis of the Lattes curricula of its members, one year after the establishment of the Florescer Research Group.
Results: there were few productions by the research professors after joining the Research Group compared to their overall scientific careers. On the other hand, several students experienced a significant increase in their scientific input. Regarding Technical Production, students produced 59 papers in total, 13 before joining the Group and 46 afterwards — 77.96% of the total occurring after joining the Research Group. Both faculty and students increased their number of scientific papers and expanded their professional knowledge, which significantly enriched their academic records.
Conclusion:
participating in a research group offers significant opportunities for enriching experiences and engaging in various scientific events, and teaching, research, outreach, and innovation projects. Moreover, it provides a platform for discussions among students, faculty, researchers, health professionals, and the community. Group members can also present scientific papers, participate in scientific events, write and publish articles and experience reports. This involvement strengthens and empowers both professionals and students in their careers by integrating teaching, research and outreach.
