Anatomophysiological aspects of the auriculotemporal nerve and its implications in dental and medical clinics

The origin, the course, the ramifications and the functional components of the auriculotemporal nerve are described. Its topographycal relationships with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are commented. The signs and symptoms arisen from the lesion of the auriculotemporal nerve or from its branches, among other the earache and hearing disturbances, as well as the manifestation of the Frey syndrome due to its anomalous regeneration are considered.
