Abstract

Thirty ewes from the North Region of São Paulo, State, Brasil were submitted fortnightly to faecal nematode egg counts (EPG) during twelve months. The main objective was the study of the evolution of the variable EPG during the year and eventual correlation with either the lambing time and with environmental conditions. Twenty of the ewes lambed twice during the twelve months period of observation. The results showed that the time of lambing correlated better with egg count rises than with environmental seasonal changes. Around 4 to 6 weeks after lambing there was a conspicuous EPG rise for pratically all the ewes. Coprocultures ponted out that Haemonchus was the nematode genus wich contributed most to the post-lambing rise.
