Sodium citrate-yolk sterilezed by filtration diluter in bovine semen criopreservation

Sodium citrate-egg yolk is the usual diluent used for frozen bovine semen. The objetive of this work was to compare. The diluent prepared using steril sodium citrate-egg yolk, one obtained by filtration and the other non filtered. Semen from two Nelore bulls, 5 and 9 years old, were used. Four thousand doses from each animal, subdivided into the two diluents were used. Four thousand and seven females were inseminated at randon with the steril and non steril diluents. Pregnancy diagnosis (45-60 days after insemination) resulted 79,9% positive tests. With the steril diluted semen a higher positive frequency was obtained — 82,8%. Whereas with the non steril diluted semen. The frequency obtained was 77,0%. Although there was no significant difference between the number of females inseminated with the two different diluted semen, and in two farms, there was a significant difference between positive pregnancy and the type of diluent used, showing that the steril diluted semen was more effective.
