Abstract
In this article we apply the phonological theory of Kenneth Pike to the study of the interference of the mother tongue of an English speaker on his second language, Portuguese. Only the segmental phonemes, their submembers and distribution are considered. Suprasegmentals and morphophonemics were not examined.
