Abstract
Herein is presented simple method of calculation for the energy levels of a metallic ion in a weak crystal field. An example of a d- configuration in an octahedral field is given. The values obtained (-6Dq, +2Dq, +12Dq) are coherent with the results of quantum mechanics. This article has didactic purpose.
