THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BRAZILIAN CAPITAL MARKET AND THE PROFILE OF MINORITY SHAREHOLDERS IN BRAZIL

This paper is initiated with a description of theevolution of the Brazilian securities market, and from this point,it analyzes the relationship of this process with the Brazilianculture of investments, as well as, with the profile of the Brazilianminority shareholder. Among other things, we could identify ayoung securities market, developed from the decade of 1960,inspired by the reality of USA and characterized by a historicof fragilities. Events as the crash of 1971, the famous case"Nahas" from 1989 and the edition of Law n. 9.457/97, whichabolished several minority shareholders' rights to accelerate theprivatization process, are studied in order to explain some ofthe reasons because the Brazilian population usually prefers toinvest in the fixed income market or in real estate, for example.Downloads
