Abstract

Objective: To analyze the importance of the Media lab concept as an articulator of Citizen Science practices in public libraries, so that they can establish themselves as laboratories of knowledge mediation, corroborating for the collective production of knowledge and instrumentalizing communities with resources that facilitate the interaction of common citizens with science.
Methodology: This is an exploratory-descriptive study with a qualitative approach that analyzes the adaptation of the Media lab concept to public libraries. The methodological path starts from the document Ten principles of Citizen Science from the European Citizen Science Association and establishes relationships with the missions of public libraries according to the IFLA-UNESCO Public Library Manifesto 2022.
Results: The results point out that Citizen Science projects developed in public libraries offer practical and theoretical subsidies regarding the importance of libraries in knowledge mediation processes, encompassing the concept of Media labs, as well as the ample possibilities for the promotion of scientific practices that involve the common citizen.
Conclusions: It concludes that public libraries are spaces of knowledge mediation, and envisions a systematization that takes into account the projection of initiatives for the full development of CC in these places.
