Abstract

Introduction: This paper covers the quality trajectory on Brazilian libraries in the last decades as well as about both paradigm changes and characteristics related to “'Ideal of quality in libraries'. This paper also address about the search for quality in Brazilian libraries based on quality management context. 
Objective: Shows how the interests with the improvement of Libraries in Brazil have been systematized over time. 
Methodology: The results are based on literature review
Results: The results show that the subjects: Standardization in Libraries; Training and Collection Development; Studies of Use and User; Information System Automation; Library Marketing and Quality Management are related to the dimensions and quality characteristics applied to library, since several thematic approaches over the years shows that the excellence and quality trajectory in Brazilian libraries has been adopted in the management library models. 
Conclusions: To understand theoretical characteristics allows contributing for a quality management implantation.
