A study of the definitions of the concept of archivistic classification

Abstract

Objective: This research analyzed the definition of the concept of archivistic classification.
Methodology: It was characterized as descriptive and exploratory in nature with a qualitative and quantitative approach, taking into consideration Dahlberg's Concept Theory when analyzing the definitions of the concept of archivistic classification.
Results: As a result, this topic was analyzed, taking into account scientific articles, between the period 2013 and 2023, in the Information Science Database, with the following points: authors, titles, concepts, definitions, dates and magazines/periodicals. In relation to the authors, he highlighted a number of 24, with only one of them appearing in two articles. In the titles, only two of the articles explicitly mentioned archivistic classification, as well as the term classification. In the definitions, four categories were identified: activity, function/activity, function and organization. The first two stood out more intensely, each with five articles, and the last two, one article each. In terms of article publication dates, the years 2013, 2015 and 2017 were the most recurrent, with two articles each year; only the year 2021 did not have even one article. In the magazines/periodicals, eight were identified, with Ágora: Arquivologia em debate having the highest incidence.
Conclusion: Archivistic classification is a fundamental step in document management, as it is responsible for the interpretation of each record, aiming to guarantee its preservation and quick access, influencing the way we perceive our history and how we build our collective identity.
