Abstract

Objective: This study sought to identify differences and similarities in the application of Knowledge Governance (GovC) in public and private sector organizations.
Methodology: This research can be characterized as qualitative, theoretical, exploratory and descriptive. The method used for its execution was the integrative literature review, applying the thematic analysis strategy. The planned, systematic and explicit survey of the data was carried out in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The searches took place in April 2021. Based on a group resulting from the exclusion and inclusion criteria, 7 scientific articles were analyzed and their arguments served as the basis for identifying differences and similarities in the application of the GovC and how it occurs in public and private.
Results: GovC structures tend to be more present in public organizations due to issues related to legislation and strategies specific to this context. The structuring and analysis of the formal mechanisms of the GovC from a holistic view promote the achievement of the objective that public and private organizations have in common in providing services to society. Hierarchization and decentralization can influence social interactions that promote knowledge-sharing behavior in public and private organizations.
Conclusions: As contributions, we highlight the possibility of visualizing the practical application of GovC in organizations and stimulating reflection and deepening of differences and similarities in the public and private sectors, which despite having different contexts, are complementary in several aspects.
