Introduction: From a brief reference to the traditional and alternative approaches of user studies, these are opposed to the social approach and the studies of information practices. Identifies and discuss the main concepts traditionally addressed in these studies, namely: user, context, information, knowledge and culture. Objective: To present the information practices approach and the reframing of these concepts it's necessary to overcome the perspective based on stimulus-response mechanisms. This perspective is adopted by the first two approaches and need to be changed to fit with this new look at informational phenomena. In addition, other concepts proposed by different authors are presented: sociability, symbolic imagination, authoritative knowledge, cognitive authority, credibility, information resilience and positioning. Methodology: Literature review of the user studies to identify: the way concepts are constructed in each approach and emerging concepts in research on information practices. Results: On a broader understanding than previous approaches, information practices refer to the most diverse modes of interaction between user and information. By adopting the reconstruction of the key concepts of studies, it is assumed that each action of the subject is result of a double movement between his subjectivity and the social references. Therefore, it's necessary to understand the meaning that users' actions has for themselves. Also, it's needed unveil the cultural dimension behind these actions. Conclusions: In information practices, traditional concepts must be reconfigured in order to adjust the more comprehensive view of this perspective. In this sense, the discussion of theoretical-methodological contributions to studies of information practices are relevant to the user studies field.Downloads
