Abstract

Introduction: It approaches a reflection on public policies for school libraries, taking into account the social and political aspects of this area The concern that conducts the research, is to comprehend how the work has been developed on the Municipal Office of Education in Juazeiro do Norte-CE with the suggestion of public policies for school libraries?
Objective: In this way, the general aim is examining how the public policies for school libraries get in this department, intending to propose a program of action.
Methodology: This work is a result of the research presented in the Professional Master's in Librarianship of the Federal University of Cariri-UFCA, presenting as descriptive and exploratory, bibliographical and documentary, delimiting itself to a case study. Regarding the nature of the data, this study is configured as quantitative and qualitative.
Results: The instruments of data collection are questionnaires and interviews, and data analysis will be through content analysis.
Conclusions: This way, concluded the Municipal Department of Education presents several shortcomings with regard to public policies for school libraries, such as: the absence of internal policies, the lack of a profissional librarian, the lack of an integrated system of the school libraries, the inadequate use of existing policies among others.
