Abstract

Extreme precipitation events cause severe damage in both urban and rural areas. The Ivaí river basin covers large differences in latitude, longitude and altitude, making its studies complex and necessary, besides being an important area of agricultural production The the aim of this work was to analyze the variability and tendency of the rainfall and its impacts through occurrences of floods, runoff and inundation episodes in the Ivaí river basin. To analyze trends, Linear Correlation (R²), Mann-Kendall Significance (MK Z) and Monotonic Trend (MK Tau) tests were used for the four seasons. As a result, it has been identified that summer and autumn are the seasons that had the most pronounced negative trends in rainfall, mainly in the southern and eastern portions of the basin. In addition, the occurrences of natural disasters caused by precipitation are alarming in the region, once 127 decrees of emergency.

Graduated in Geography from the State University of Londrina. Master's student at the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering (PPGEA) at the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR). Research fellow at the Agronomic Institute of Paraná - IAPAR / IAIPU Binacional.

Deise Fabiana Ely, State University of Londrina

PhD (2006) in Geography from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, with post-doctorate in Meteorology from the University of Maryland at College Park and in Geography from Université de Rennes II and Université de Moncton. She is currently an adjunct professor at the State University of Londrina, Paraná.
