Abstract

The article discusses the relation between word and image, starting from the idea of ekphrasis. It analyzes the hypothesis of equivalence between description and object and defends the existence of an intuitive possibility of understanding, which lies beyond the description and also the surface of the image. It designates this zone of intuitive knowledge of “nebula” and defends that it materializes in an indefinite image. To this end, uses the distinction made by W.J.T Mitchell between image and picture, adding a third dimension to this structure, which defines image: the nebula. The image is constituted by picture, image and the fog. The image that is that of the nebula that defines imagine itself.
