Dutch cartographic production in its Gonden Age, during the end of 16th and 17th century, was the richest and most creative in the production of wall maps, made to decorate the walls of palaces, halls of noble families, statesmen or wealthy merchants libraries. This article presents some aspects concerning South America in Willem Jansz Blaeu’s wall map, by 1608, entitled America quarta pars Orbis, considered one of the most influential map of America. The main interest is to highlight the choices made by the authors – cartographer and engraver - concerning the representation of men and women, natural inhabitants of the continente, and existing or new created cities.Downloads
