Abstract

This text reflects on the production of authorial photographs addressing humanist themes. It builds on the idea that photography operates as a Barthesian myth, as it extracts the visible from its original context and presents it in a way that may either approximate or distance itself from reality. The possibilities of photography within Chela Sandoval’s Methodology of the Oppressed are explored as a tool for deconstructing this myth and creating emancipatory meta-ideologies. This approach is anchored in Laura Boushnak’s I Read, I Write series, which highlights the challenges faced by Muslim women in accessing formal education.
