Abstract

This article analyzes the mechanisms that led certain photographs, especially war photos, to stand out of all the violent images that reach us every day, becoming iconic of these events. The idea is try to understand which elements, such as great emotional appeal and wide distribution on mass media, are common in these photographs and think a bit about how these images are constructed, in and out of the camera, and on the importance of portraying the war.

Vinicius Guedes Pereira de Souza, Universidade Paulista - UNIP Celacc - ECA- USP

PhD in Communication from UNIP, São Paulo (in progress, beginning in 2012), Master in Communication from UNIP, São Paulo (2010), BA in Communication with specialization in Journalism from the School of Social Communication Casper Libero (1992). Teacher Celacc-ECA-USP and Fiam-Faam-FMU. Researcher of Alterjor-ECA-USP and Mediations Telematics in Social Groups - UNIP. Photographer, journalist and independent documentary filmmaker.
