Abstract

This article verifies the problems in the construction of the Mauá Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as the main problems the project execution. Examines the issue of coastal communities, with emphasis on human aspects and acquired rights guaranteed legally. Evaluates the state's interests in the construction of hydroelectric power, to effect the expansion of the Brazilian energy matrix. Describes environmental problems on the realization of the work and justifies the need for protection of this heritage as a collective good. It concludes with an analysis of alternative sources of power generation, less onerous to Rio Tibagi.
