Abstract

Within of an editorial reformulation process, Amigo da Onça is integrated to visual narratives set which gave to O Cruzeiro magazine its particularity as information source of a period of time. The steps, of which the process was involved, were based in a growing and indispensable use of the images in the weekly inner, as a way to attract the readership attention and make its contents reporter different. Amigo da Onça is part of this process in which images are tied up to people's daily lives. Through the exposure of a methodology, we analyzed about 50 images, with a period of 5 years (1956-1961), which capture the period’s imaginary, particularly the modernization, consumer culture and progress, which were highly widespread and targeted at Juscelino Kubitschek’s government. It was observed Péricles Maranhão’s Amigo da Onça cartoon insertion, in time and space, therefore, as a symbol of the period’s imaginary.
