The researches based on Varsul speech data have pointed out that the rhotic variable is conditioned mainly by geographic group and syllable position. In all these works it is observed the presence of front variants in onset and coda position. The present work proposes to delineate the results of these researches and examine the possibility of comparing and generalizing their results. Methodological questions, based on the variationist model, are considered so that the effect of methods on results may be examined and consequently regularities and tendencies may be extracted from the results.Downloads
