This study concerns the characterization of reading behavior in the undergraduate course of nursing. The objectives were: verify frequency of reading behavior, detect interest in different types of reading, and test the existence of correlation between reading behavior and academic improvement. The results were obtained with the application of a questionnaire to a test group of 86 students at the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods of nurse training. The results indicated a characteristic of low to medium lever of reading, with major interest in romantic literature. There was little correlation between reading behavior and school performance.
