The purpose of this study, after reviewing the specialized literature, is to offer information that could serve as the necessary basis to a better understanding of the subject, "body fat evaluation". At first, an attempt to deal with basic aspects related to subcutaneous fat determination was made by analyzing the different implications of the skinfold thickness. Then, the principles of hydrostatic weighing were examined as an aid the body density estimate, attempting to report its applications and limitations to the fat evaluation.
