Spatial distribution of SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in the Administrative Region of Estrutural, Federal District, Brazil

Introduction: Understanding the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and its spatial distribution in Estrutural is crucial for properly targeting public health policies in future epidemic situations. Methods: We conducted a spatial analysis study of seroprevalence and associated factors in the SCIA/Estrutural Administrative Region between May 27 and September 19, 2021. We administered questionnaires and performed IgG serological tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies on a sample of 1057 participants, analyzing demographic, socioeconomic variables, antibody presence for the virus, and their spatial distribution. A sample of 1054 was considered for spatial analysis. Results: Out of 1057 participants, 201 tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. The estimated prevalence was 19.11% (95% CI; 16.85% to 21.59%). In the logistic regression model, having a monthly income of up to one minimum wage showed a negative association (OR = 0.46; 95% CI 0.25 to 0.83). Spatial analysis identified Chácara Santa Luzia as the area with the highest density of SARS-CoV-2 seropositive participants. Discussion: Nearly a quarter of the population had been infected early in the pandemic among the studied population. The spatial analysis identified a clustering of seropositive participants in the most vulnerable area of Estrutural, demonstrating that the spatial distribution is non-homogeneous. This difference may be related to local characteristics of Santa Luzia, such as residential density and residents per household.
