Breastfeeding and newborn care: What do first-time mothers know?

This study aimed to characterize the primigravid women assisted at the Basic Health Unit of Jardim Leonor, sensitize them to breastfeeding, in addition to explaining the reasons for certain care for newborns. Breast milk has numerous advantages, in addition, physical contact favors an important psychological harmony between mother and baby. Given the data obtained in this research, it is possible to conclude that pregnant women would perform the ways described in the literature as correct, even without knowing the reasons for such attitudes. In addition, the primigravid women interviewed are very aware of the importance of breastfeeding as a more adequate diet in the baby's first days of life.Downloads
