The aging process is described by senile or senescent modifications, which can cause balance deficits and gait disorders that increase the occurrence of falls and functional limitations in elderly individuals, mainly females. The aim of this study was to compare the influence of two exercise protocols on the balance of the elderly women. Fifteen elderly women were divided into two groups: group A, submitted to active-resisted exercises and group B, who performed proprioceptive exercises. Both groups performed the treatment twice a week for two months, and were evaluated before, immediately after and one month after the protocols by the Berg balance scale. After the proposed treatment and one month after its end, there was an balance increase in group A (p=0.0373 and p=0.0221 respectively) and group B (p=0.0175 and p=0.0009 respectively). The exercise protocols applied significantly increased the balance of the elderly participants of the study, but without significant difference.Downloads
