Twenty nine strains of Escherichia coli isolated from chicken in Londrina, were tested for drugs resistance and distribution ofR plasmids. It was determinated the resistence level of strains and 93,1% were resistant, 79,3% were multiple antibiotic resistance. Most was resistance to tetracycline and sulphadiazine (79,3% and 68,1% respectively). The resistance to chloranphenicol, ampicilin an kanamycin was lower. In genetic studies of transferance of resistant determinant by conjugation, it was revealed 33,3% of conjugative R plasmids. These results would present a serious public health hazard whereas the antibiotic resistant E. coli, carrying R plasmids, reach man by animals feed.
