Parasitological, clinical and laboratory findings of the experimental infection of a horse with a strain of T. evansi isolated from the capybara (H Hydrochaeris) are reported. it was shown that the parasite was able to infect the horse and the parasitosis presented a chronic course; clinically intermittent fever, coinciding with febrile and paraistaemic peaks, was observed. Haematological alterations were: decrease of the erythrocyte numbers, haemoglobin content and the mean globular volume. A fine granulated cut surface was observed on the enlarged spleen at necropsy. Microscopically, the organ presented intense activity of the germinal centers and congestion of the sinusoides.
