Occurrence of dermatophytosis in dogs and cats seen at the Veterinary Hospital at Universidade Estadual de Londrina, Paraná State.

Abstract

From January 1995 to October 1996, 86 cases of dogs and 17 of cats clinically suspected of dermatophytosis seen at the Veterinary Hospital were studied. Through microscopical exame and culture five dogs were diagnosed positive for dermatophytosis, whereas Microsporum canis (n = 3) and Microsporum gypseum (n = 2). Microsporum canis were isolated from four positive cats. According to this study the highest prevalence rates were among cats less than six months old and dogs up to 24 months old. The features of the lesions were observed.
