Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the complex relationship between fashion, clothing, and health, in order to understand how choices regarding clothing affect the quality of life, autonomy and well-being of individuals. Through an assessment from the perspective of health promotion, an exploratory empirical approach is used, using a qualitative and descriptive analysis. To conduct the study, carried out by an interdisciplinary team, two data collection instruments were used, being a semi-structured interview with health and product development professionals, and a questionnaire applied to different subjects. In total, 266 people participated in this study, 13 professionals and 253 users. The data shows that the use of clothing causes health problems and that many of these problems can be improved through simple solutions, or a greater interest on the part of the health sector in understanding the risks and benefits of the field of fashion to promote of health. This study also contributes to fashion designers including the theme of health in their projects.
