Abstract

This paper aims to systematize principles and methodological approaches applicable to the practice of design that are aligned with feminist thinking. To this end, we carried out a literature review covering texts that are explicitly linked to design and feminist criticism, addressing discussions around design practices. The study was motivated by the identification of a lack of texts written in Portuguese that discuss this topic. As a result, we indicate that the consulted authors, in general, highlight the need to involve different subjects in all phases of the design processes, recognizing the validity of a plurality of knowledges and experiences, understood as always situated, not neutral and constituted in articulation with social markers such as gender, sexuality, class and race/ethnicity. We also identify proposals for feminist interventions and queer contaminations in methods that are already widespread, such as participatory design and human-centered design, but also in emerging methods such as speculative and critical design.
