This paper explores how institutions can combat COVID-19, utilizing the concepts of political liberalism and social justice, in light of John Rawls' theory. Rawlsian theory delves in just and equitable responses not only in relation to institutions, but also in relation to the natural duties of individuals. Natural duties, the priority of the just, and the criterion of reciprocity require that the individual right to life be treated with priority, even if it is costly in economic terms. Regarding vaccination, institutions must act, coherently and collectively, to guarantee it as a right, whilst also extending its compulsory nature. This study is, in sum, an interpretative study of Rawls' political conception of justice, with a view to finding elements that may help in confronting COVID-19.
