A biblioteca do futuro: um olhar no passado

Resumen

Introducción: En 1929, McDevitt ya informó que se producirían cambios importantes en las bibliotecas y que los problemas que enfrentarían estarían más relacionados con los recursos financieros que con la tecnología en sí. Esta no ha resultado ser la gran barrera de las bibliotecas, y son los cambios y avances de la tecnología los que ponen en peligro la supervivencia de la biblioteca tradicional. Objetivo: El documento propone presentar ideas de bibliotecarios y autores de ciencia de la información sobre la biblioteca del futuro y los cambios tecnológicos y sociales que estos sufrirían en los años siguientes. Metodología: revisión de la literatura que abarca el período de 1945 a 2003. Resultados: la investigación revela que la literatura central sobre bibliotecas se refiere a la transición de lo físico a lo digital, y todo el proceso que deben pasar las bibliotecas en términos financieros, de personal y tecnologías, como así como las posibles barreras y limitaciones para esta transición. Conclusiones: Se concluye que incluso con todo el potencial esperado para el desarrollo de la biblioteca digital, el movimiento de transición no se produjo tan rápido o en la misma proporción que los autores imaginaron y que la transición aún no está completa.

Graduação em Biblioteconomia pela Universidade de Brasília (2009). Em fase de conclusão de Mestrado em Ciência da Informação da Universidade de Brasília. Atualmente é funcionário público do Instituto Federal de Brasília. Tem experiência na área de Ciência da Informação, com ênfase em Ciência da Informação, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: web 2.0, internet, altmetria e serviço de referência.

Murilo Bastos da Cunha, Universidade de Brasília - UNB Faculdade de Ciência da Informação Brasília, DF

Graduado em Biblioteconomia pela Universidade de Brasília (UnB, 1968), mestrado em Administração de Bibliotecas pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1978), doutor (Ph. D.) em Library Science pela University of Michigan ( EUA,1982), e estágio de pós-doutorado na University of Michigan (1996-97). Professor titular aposentado da UnB, professor permanente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciência da Informação da UnB, líder do Grupo de Pesquisa sobre Biblioteca digital (UnB-FCI).
