Abstract

Introduction: Fellows Research Productivity (FP) can be considered as the largest holders of academic prestige and reputation within the scientific field. This condition arises from the fact that they have a scientific capital accumulated and recognized as legitimate. 
Objective: To analyze the scientific production of the academic elite of Sociology, represented by a stock productivity PQ-The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in the period 2005 to 2011. 
Methodology: This study involved a documentary research whose source of data collection was in CNPq’s Lattes Platform.Results:The results of this survey shows that in Brazil there are 20 fellows PQ 1-A level in Sociology. The scientific production of researchers gave a total 679 publications in books and 5.6%, 35.34% in book chapters, articles in 30.49% and 28.57% of journals in conference proceedings. The average work by author corresponds to 33.95%. 
Conclusions: The results allowed that the Brazilian researchers of sociology publish more in the form of a single author and national language, confirming previous studies on scientific production in the field of humanities.
