Objective: To analyze the applicability of the OAIS model to the long-term preservation of complex cultural objects and identify effective strategies adopted by institutions.
Methodology: The study followed the PRISMA protocol and used Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, BDTD, and the AI-assisted platform SCISPaCE to retrieve literature using structured search terms. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, selected works were analyzed in full.
Results: The review revealed a lack of studies specifically focused on non-textual cultural objects. However, three significant works were identified that address scalable solutions for small museums, integrated preservation strategies in libraries, archives, and museums, and a governance model for distributed digital preservation using the OAIS framework.
Conclusions: The findings indicate that successful digital preservation of cultural objects requires an interdisciplinary approach, the use of open formats, periodic migration strategies, emulation, and collaborative governance. Institutional policies and legal frameworks must also be developed to ensure access and sustainability.
