Abstract

Research communities (technological, scientific, artistic, philosophical) can be defined as socially aligned groups, whose cohesion relies on artifacts and technologies of self-recognition and collective memory. Some of the most important cohesion mechanisms depend on various types of collaborative bonding that accumulate over time among agents and include co-authorship publication processes and protocols. Objective: Our main purpose is to analyze structural and dynamic properties of collaboration in co-authored publications observed in the Arts community in Minas Gerais state, between 2000 and 2020. Methodology: We analyzed the multi-author collaboration of articles by faculty members affiliated with Arts Postgraduate Programs in Minas Gerais through Network Analysis. Results: We identified a tendency for the community to fragment, with collaboration between two to three co-authors being predominant both in the number of publications and the frequency of sub-communities. Conclusões: This is the first study to model the dynamics and architecture of multi-author collaboration in the Arts field through network analysis. We observed that the co-authorship network expands over time, but with an expansion rate that decreases from period to period and that there is a tendency of the community to become more fragmented.
